A Budgeting App Without Connecting Your Bank
MoneyFlow doesn't set up an ongoing connection to your bank at all. There's nothing running in the background to sync, and nothing to reconnect when it breaks.
What a "bank connection" means
In most budgeting apps, connecting a bank sets up an ongoing link, usually through an aggregator like Plaid, Finicity, or MX, that pulls in new transactions on a schedule. It's not a one-time import - the connection stays active in the background for as long as you keep the account linked.
Why connections break
Banks change login flows, roll out extra verification steps, or have a temporary outage on the aggregator's side - any of these can drop the sync. When that happens, transactions stop coming in silently until someone notices and reconnects the account. Removing the connection removes that failure mode entirely, since there's no connection to drop.
How MoneyFlow works instead
You log entries yourself as they happen, and Safe-to-Spend and net worth update from that. There's no connection status to check, because there's no connection.

Frequently asked questions
What does a bank connection actually mean in a budgeting app?+
It's an ongoing link, usually set up through an aggregator like Plaid, Finicity, or MX, that pulls new transactions from your bank into the app on a schedule. It's not one-time - the connection stays active and keeps syncing until you remove it.
Why do bank connections break?+
Banks change their login flows, add extra security steps, or the aggregator's connection to that specific bank has an outage - any of which can drop the sync and require reconnecting. It's a known friction point with connected budgeting apps, not a rare edge case.
If MoneyFlow doesn't connect to my bank, how do I keep it updated?+
You log entries as they happen - a purchase, a bill payment, a deposit. There's no connection running in the background to keep alive, so there's also nothing to reconnect when a bank changes something on their end.
Can I still see all my accounts in one place without connecting them?+
Yes. You enter balances and activity from each account yourself, and MoneyFlow rolls them into one Safe-to-Spend number and one net worth figure, the same as a connected app would, just without an active connection behind it.
