Manual Budgeting App: Track Your Money Without Bank Sync

MoneyFlow is manual by design, not manual as a fallback for when bank sync isn't available. You type in your income, bills, spending, debts, and goals, and the app calculates Safe-to-Spend, net worth, and your debt payoff date from what you entered.

How manual entry works

Every entry - a purchase, a bill, a debt payment, a deposit - gets logged by you and tagged to a category. There's no background import to review or reconcile afterward. What you entered is what the app shows, which also means there's nothing waiting to sync before your numbers are accurate.

Why some people prefer it

  • No bank credentials or bank connection to set up or maintain
  • No duplicate or miscategorized transactions from a bank feed
  • Recording a purchase as it happens keeps spending closer to top of mind than reviewing an imported list later
  • Works the same for income that doesn't arrive on a fixed schedule

The honest downside

Manual entry takes more input than an automatic import. If you forget to log something, it won't show up on its own the way a bank-synced transaction would. That's a real tradeoff, not a detail to gloss over - it's the cost of not handing a bank connection to a third party.

How long it actually takes

Logging a single bill, purchase, or debt payment takes a few taps. Setting up income, bills, debts, subscriptions, and goals from scratch takes most people under 2 minutes, and after that it's just logging new activity as it happens.

Offline and private by default

Since nothing is imported from a bank, MoneyFlow works without an internet connection at all. Your data stays on your device unless you turn on the optional Cloud Sync feature - it's never required to use the app.

How Safe-to-Spend is calculated from manual entries

Safe-to-Spend takes what you've logged as income, subtracts bills, subscriptions, debt payments, and savings goal contributions you've entered, and updates the moment you add or edit something. The calculation doesn't care whether the underlying number came from an import or from typing it in - it's the same math either way.

Frequently asked questions

Is a manual budgeting app harder to keep up with than a bank-synced one?+

It takes more typing, since nothing imports automatically. Most people log a purchase, bill, or debt payment in a few taps, and get their full setup done in under 2 minutes. What it removes is the cleanup work bank-synced apps create: miscategorized imports, duplicate transactions, and reconnecting a sync that broke.

Do I have to log every single transaction?+

You log what you want reflected in your Safe-to-Spend number. Some people track every purchase, others log bills, subscriptions, and bigger spending and skip small cash purchases. MoneyFlow works either way.

Does manual entry work if my income is irregular?+

Yes. Since you're entering income yourself rather than waiting for a bank feed to catch a deposit, manual entry can actually be a better fit for freelance or variable income than an automated import that assumes a regular paycheck.

Can I switch to manual entry after using a bank-synced app?+

Yes. You'd start by entering your current balances, bills, and debts as a baseline, then log new activity going forward - there's no transaction history to migrate since MoneyFlow was never pulling from your bank.
